Jix: The Joomla Import Export & Update Utility

Problem

When you open your Jix Configuration CSV file in Excel, you get the following error:-

Excel has detected that 'yourfile.csv' is a SYLK file, but cannot load it.  Either the file has errors or it is not a SYLK file format.  Click OK to open the file in a different format.

Cause

Normally happens when the first two characters in the file (ie at cell A1) are "ID" (note capitals).  Excel (wrongly) uses this as an indicator that the file is SYLK.

Solution

I have found no Microsoft solution to this problem.  You may try any of the following solutions:-

• Click on OK and the file will probably open OK;
• Use Open Office;
• Change the text in cell A1.  "id" (note lower case) will avoid the problem.
